FAQ’s
Frequently Asked Questions
| 1: What does your company offer? | We are a kite school and shop running powerkite, kitelandboard and kitesurfing lessons from March to November. We also offer equipment hire and kite and board repair service |
| 2: What is kitesurfing? | Please have a look at this link for loads of information about this awesome water sport |
| 3: Is kitesurfing dangerous, will I be blown away? | Thanks to massive design improvements of the kites in last couple of years, the sport has become much safer. We only use the latest and safest equipment, all of which have ‘let-go’ safety systems that kill 100% of the power of the kite. Our instructors are very experienced and will always make sure the lessons are run with safety as the primary concern and is never compromised. |
| 4: How do I know the instructors will be experienced and capable? | All of our instructors are BKSA (British Kitesurfing Association) trained and qualified, with current powerboat and first aid certificates. The school is BKSA affiliated proving we have the required safety levels and equipment. |
| 5: What happens if the conditions are not suitable on the day of my lesson? | Don’t worry! We will contact you the day before the course if the conditions are forecast to be unsuitable and re-schedule the lesson for a later date. We will always try to run as much of the lesson as possible on any given day. |
| 6: Do I need to bring anything with me? | Everything is supplied for the kite courses; all students are given wetsuits, buoyancy aids, harnesses and helmet as well as the kitesurfing equipment. Please bring with you are some warm clothes, sun cream and a towel. |
| 7: If I book on a group course will I receive sufficient time with the instructor to learn? | We have a MAXIMUM of only 4 students per instructor but it is usually less. Our experienced instructors divide their time wisely, spending maximum time with each student to allow quick progression and this is shown in our results. |
| 8: Do you have any discounts available? | Our 2, 3 and 5 day kitesurfing courses have discounts for mid week bookings. We also offer group discounts up to 30%. Students are offered 10% discount on midweek and weekend courses. Please contact us for group discounts |
| 9: What time of day do your courses run? | We try to run our courses at sensible times and to suit you, but depending on the tides and which beach we are using, the lessons can start early in the morning or run until the evening. A full day kitesurfing course is around 6 hours. |
| 10 : Is a 1 day kitesurfing course enough to learn to kitesurf? | A 1 day kitesurfing course covers a lot of information and all of the theory and safety, but unless you are a fast learner, there is not enough time to complete enough practical experience to become a master in one day. A one day kitesurfing course is a good introduction to the sport or a perfect present in the form of a kitesurfing gift voucher, however, if you are sure you want to really learn the sport and continue, we suggest a 2 or 3 day kitesurfing course. |
| 10: Is there a minimum age limit for children wishing to learn? | Our minimum age is 10 years old but due to the size of young children the instructor needs to be with them at all times; therefore we have a maximum of 2 children per instructor if under 16. For under 18s the parent also must be present during the lesson to supervise. Tristan & Thomas hold CRB certificates for working with children |
| 11. Am I to old for kite sports? | Generally most kitesurfers are middle aged and often into their 60’s. The most elderly kitesurfer in England is 73 years young! The sport is not that strenuous on the body as a lot of the power is spread through the harness. The kitesurfing lessons have plenty of breaks and the students work in pairs so as not get too tired. |
| 12: Are there places to stay if I book onto a 2, 3 or 5 day course? | The area is very popular with tourists and there is a wide range of accommodation available from camping to high class hotels, please contact us for recommendations or look at http://www.rye-tourism.co.uk/ |
| 13. In group courses, will other students slow me down or vice versa? | No, we always finish the courses when the syllabus is completed rather than on a time scale. We try to cover as much as we can in the courses without exhausting the students! |
