Kite Loops

Learn to loop your kite through the window for massive power and lift — one of kitesurfing's most thrilling moves.

The kite loop is where kitesurfing gets genuinely intense. Looping your kite — steering it in a full 360-degree rotation through the power zone — generates an explosive surge of power that can lift you higher, pull you faster, and create the most dynamic riding sensations in the sport. It's also the move that separates intermediate riders from advanced ones.

Downloop Progression

We start with the downloop — looping the kite downward and through the power zone — which is the foundation of all kite loop variations. Your instructor will have you practise the kite movement from the beach first, steering the kite through the loop slowly to understand the power curve. Then, in the water, you'll begin with small, gentle loops at low altitude before progressively increasing speed and commitment.

The key to safe kite loops is progressive commitment. Your first loops will be gentle redirects that barely count as loops — and that's exactly right. Each attempt adds a little more rotation, a little more speed, until you're performing full loops with confidence. Rushing this progression is the most common cause of injuries in kite loop learning, and our instructors know exactly how to pace it.

Kite Loops in Jumps

Once you're comfortable looping the kite from the water, we introduce the aerial kite loop — sending the kite into a loop while you're in the air from a jump. The power surge from the loop pulls you forward and down with enormous force, creating spectacular, pendulum-like descents. You'll learn to time the loop, control the surge, and land with the kite in the right position to ride away clean.

"My first proper kite loop in the air was the most intense thing I've ever experienced on a kiteboard. The power surge is incredible — like being on a rollercoaster. But the instructor built me up so gradually that by the time I did a full loop, I felt ready for it." — Ryan K., advanced rider

Kite loops are a gateway to the most exciting riding kitesurfing has to offer. They're the foundation of megaloop big air, they add power to transitions, and they look absolutely spectacular. This lesson builds the skill safely and progressively, giving you a move that will transform your sessions forever.
