This allows you to power on and off instantly, stay in the pocket for longer and out of the critical impact zone. Featuring a sensory pivot turn for control, and huge depower range, the Carve gives you the confidence to focus on surfing, in onshore to offshore, and anything in between. The strong surf-freestyle characteristics let you throw down strapless freestyle and perform lofty jumps with ease. Compared to the rest of our North range, the Carve sits further back in the wind window and enhances down the line drift. NEW EVOLVED DRIFT

New bridling ensures you’re able to maintain the drift when you’re sheeted in. The kite is responsive and goes down the line. But when it’s offshore or you’re riding overpowered, there’s now a lot more reaction from the kite when you sheet out.

NEW IMPROVED TOP END PERFORMANCE

Changes to the bridle have improved the top end wind range of the kite. We’ve traded a little from the bottom end for a considerable amount more top end depower. Now you can experience bigger jumps with better hang time in stronger conditions.

NEW LOW-DRAG, NO-PULLEY BRIDLE LINES

The NEW bridling provides an extremely direct feel in both bar pressure and steering initiation. More intuitive feedback from the bar in both directions so you’ll always know where your kite is. The new bridling enables more responsive steering and pivoty turns. This limits the amount of power that is produced so you generate less speed in your bottom turns, and can ride closer to the pocket of the wave. Our NEW high quality spliced, pre-stretched bridle lines are pre-loaded and measured before cutting to improve accuracy and consistency. This results in reduced shrinkage, reduced elongation and improved longevity. Removing ALL pulleys from the bridle improves safety and gives the kite direct and precise handling. The end result is lower drag, more accuracy and a more direct feeling.

HIGH BUOYANCY LEADING EDGE DIAMETER

For a rigid, stable kite frame which requires less inflation pressure. The high volume of air in the leading edge ensures the kite stays on top of the white water, and is not easily crushed by the waves. The larger leading edge diameter intentionally produces more drag and helps the kite sit deeper in the pocket. It also allows us to thin out the actual profile in the canopy itself. Less curve through the main body of the canopy and a larger leading edge design. Less canopy movement or deformation as you ride the kite at lower attack angles or sheeted out. The kite sits a little further back in the window, so that it will run with you as you steer towards it, rather than stop moving or flying forward and front stalling.

TWO-STAGE ARC WITH DIRECT PIVOT STEERING

The Carve’s responsive two-stage arc design enables tighter turns without excessive amounts of power. The two-stage arc allows the smooth curved efficient central region of the kite to produce power. The straighter wing tips provide a more dynamic steering response.

NEW EVOLVED DRIFT

The North Carve 2021 is a statically balanced, stable kite that resists nose diving. Down the line drift is most important when the wind’s onshore. The more offshore it gets, the more important it is for the kite to fly forward. New bridling ensures you’re able to maintain the drift when you’re sheeted in, the kite is responsive and goes down the line. But when it’s offshore or you’re riding overpowered, there’s now a lot more reaction from the kite when you sheet out, and its ability to fly forward is greatly improved.

NEW IMPROVED TOP END PERFORMANCE

Changes to the bridle have improved the top end wind range of the kite. It maintains linear power delivery and you can still ride it a size smaller, but we’ve traded a little from the bottom end for a considerable amount more top end depower. Now that we’ve improved the top end on this kite, you can experience bigger jumps with better hang time in stronger conditions. This gives strapless freestyle riders the ability to choose a bigger size kite than you’d use for wave riding yet still have the control and manageability you need for jumps and hang time for tricks.

TWO-STAGE ARC WITH DIRECT PIVOT STEERING

The Carve’s responsive two-stage arc design enables tighter turns without excessive amounts of power. As the arc shape becomes narrower the kite uses less of its projected area, giving it a smaller turning radius for tighter turns, and less pull or power in turns.

NEW LIGHTER SURF-TOUGH CONSTRUCTION

We’ve maintained the surf tough construction by replacing the dacron canopy panels with a NEW heavy duty lighter, stronger canopy reinforcement material. The reinforcement protects the lighter inner main canopy body and allows the kite to be more responsive in the steering and depower. This adds strength and elongation control, protecting the lighter inner main canopy body and producing a durable kite that can hold its profile for increased performance and lift. Because the new fabric is more conforming to the inflated structure, it creates a smoother, cleaner entry on the profiles.

REFINED AERODYNAMIC PROFILE TRANSITION PANELS

The profile transition panels on the North Carve 2021 ensure that as the leading edge expands, tension from the elongation doesn’t migrate into the canopy and a precise lateral profile shape is maintained as close to the leading edge as possible. This creates a smooth transition from the segmented leading edge to the curved canopy so the profiles are more uniform throughout the entire wing. The panels reduce inconsistencies in the profile, resulting in a smoother, more efficient kite, with more aerodynamic airflow, drive and stability.

FAST-LAUNCHING SWEPT LEADING EDGE DESIGN

Allows more area in the centre of the kite for efficiency and makes the kite easy to roll off the water during critical relaunch in the surf. The North Carve 2021 is not swept in the trailing edge like a bow kite, but it has a lot of curvature when viewed from the side, and the wingtips are not particularly wide. This puts a lot of the usable area in the center of the kite, rather than in the wing tip.

So even though the North Carve 2021 is lower aspect, it is still efficient for its size, and more importantly, the relaunch is super-quick. With less leading edge on the water it doesn’t lay flat, so for fast relaunch in most cases you don’t have to pull the rear line, simply rotate the bar. This really helps if you’re riding waves and need to relaunch your kite quickly when a set’s coming.

DURALITE SEAM PROTECTION

Lightweight reinforcement to protect from chafing and abrasion along the struts to the leading edge. Thin foam padding is inserted underneath to form a lightweight durable buffer which lifts the kite slightly off rough surfaces, and protects the stitching along the struts and leading edge seams.

PERSONALISED PERFORMANCE TUNING OPTIONS

Bar pressure and steering impulse can be adjusted on the wing tip. This allows you to fine tune the kite’s characteristics to your personal preference.

D2 Ripstop Fabric by Teijin. Premium high-density canopy material made in Japan, using high tenacity polyester yarn for lightness, high tearing strength and endurance. Teijin Techno Force has the highest strength to weight ratio and longest durability in the industry.

KEVLAR REINFORCED STRUT SYSTEM WITH BRIDLE DEFLECTORS

For the most accurate and durable connection between the strut and the leading edge. Bridle deflectors on the leading edge prevent the control lines catching on the struts.

The North Navigator 2021 Control System connects you intuitively to your kite, using premium leading technology Dyneema lines for precise performance. For 2021 we’ve widened the range with a new smaller bar size, and we’ve refined the ergonomic design even further for greater durability, increased tactile control and comfort. ADJUSTABLE BAR LENGTH OPTIONS WITH NEW SMALLER BAR SIZE

Fine tune the turning speed of your kite. The North Navigator 2021 is available in three sizes 50-55cm (L), 45-50cm (M) and NEW bar size 38-43cm (S) – suited particularly to small freeride kites and freestylers.

NEW OMNIDIRECTIONAL GRIP WITH OFFSET FINGER BAR

Feel more connected. The Navigator is designed with a comfortable ergonomic grip for a natural grasp and the tactile offset finger bar is slightly oval, so you can feel when the control bar is orientated correctly. The colour-coded grip, leader tubing and line retainer pull tabs give a nod to our sailing heritage, port (red) and starboard (green).

NEW LARGER SPINNING LEASH ATTACHMENT RING

Our NEW oval-shaped leash pin ring has been elongated for easier fastening of the leash carabiner, and spins to help prevent your landing line from twisting.

PROTECTIVE PU COVERED LEADER LINES

To help prevent line abrasion from uncovered lines against your skin, we’ve used colour-coded PU tubing covers. The covers also help them remain rigid and out of the way when the flying lines aren’t under tension.

ADJUSTABLE CLEATED TRIM SYSTEM

Provides industry-proven line-adjustment when needed. The cleat base has been designed with NEW circular geometry for consistent bar spin, in other words, no jamming when you’re doing a barspin megaloop. In overpowered conditions the cleat allows you to shorten your front lines and adjust your body position.

DURABLE COVERED MAINLINE, WITH CUSTOMISED TPU TUBING

Symmetrical multibore landing line channel allows the landing line/flying line to pass through without snagging, regardless of the orientation when deploying or reloading. Crafted from a patented material specifically formulated for high abrasion flexible applications.

ADJUSTABLE LENGTH FLYING LINES 22M (12M + 10M)

22m lines have a split at 12m, which is far enough for the bar to travel to completely depower our largest kite when you flag out. Remove the standard 10m top section of flying line and 12m lines are ideal for schools to teach with and for foil racing. 8m and NEW 6m line extensions are available as an accessory for wave riding or tighter kiteloops.

KOOK-PROOF FLYING LINE CONNECTORS

Ensure you always set up your flying lines correctly. Designed to be exactly the same length so you can easily change the front (knotted end) and rear (lark’s head loop) connectors to match most other manufacturers’ kite configurations. Please familiarise yourself with the safety procedures and trimming instructions outlined in your kite’s user manual.

PREMIUM QUICK RELEASE LEASH – OPTIONAL

The Navigator Control System can be supplied with a premium quality North Freeride Leash with a high load carabiner. Also comes with soft neoprene cover and non-abrasive elasticised webbing. The NEW leash QR mechanism has been modified to ensure correct orientation is maintained when released for consistent, safe release and reload.

PREMIUM 100% DYNEEMA SK99 FLYING LINES

Strong, thinner profile, pre-stretched flying lines mean less parasitic drag and uncompromised direct performance. With 88m of flying lines in the air, you can really feel the difference thinner line creates. Our latest technology high-load LIROS DC-401 Pro flying lines have extreme stretch resistance and minimal diameter (1.6mm).

CONNECT QUICK RELEASE WITH INTUITIVE SINGLE-ACTION RELOAD

Fast, safe releases in a wide range of conditions. Our patented Connect Quick Release (QR) raises the bar in kite control system safety. The red QR handle has been ergonomically designed to fit in your hand comfortably for an industry-standard push away release. All loaded or running surfaces feature highly polished 316 stainless steel and low-friction components. The stretchy, larger diameter bungee inside the QR helps reduce accidental release.

TOOLLESS INTERLOOP SYSTEM WITH LOCKGUARD

Switch effortlessly between disciplines – no tools required. Simply push, twist, pull, lock and go. Loops are made from optimised TPU material for flex and durability, with a more rigid freeride security finger to prevent unexpected unhooking. Flexible LockGuard safety ring prevents accidental release of your interloop.

SOFT EVA BAR ENDS WITH RETRACTABLE LINE WINDERS

The positive buoyancy bar ends with integrated line winder bungees are injection moulded in one piece with no seams for long-lasting quality. The bar ends ensure nothing hard comes in touch with you or your board. They float the entire bar, and also contain the concealed rear line adjustment. Even the best quality lines shrink over time, so after a month, we recommend you check your lines are all even and drop them to the bottom knot. It’s easy and takes only a minute to make the change.

LIGHTWEIGHT OVER-MOLDED TRIM HANDLE WITH DYNEEMA LINES

Easy to reach molded trim handle doesn’t hurt when it hits you. Made from Nylon/EVA for strength with a textured soft-touch grip. Top quality German-made extremely high wear Dyneema depower and trim line with a special impregnation coating for resistance to abrasion.
